The Irish Set Dancers Frankfurt encourages young people to take part in our events.
On the musical side, that is represented by the Ilen Céilí Band, a young dynamic group of musicians from Skibbereen. Sean Walsh leads the band, is head of music at the Schull Community College in Schull, Co. Cork, and Musical Director of the Skibbereen Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann.
Sean's band is large, but usually only 3-7 assemble to play at local céilithe. Sean himself plays button accordian, piano accordion, and melodion.
Ekhart Topp, who plays with the Ilen Céilí Band at our workshops, is also very engaged with young people, leading numerous drum and rock workshops, as well as Irish guitar accompaniment.
Jeremy Roche is a fully qualified and vetted primary school teacher. His dancing career goes back to his teens when he was an Australian standard dance champion. Over the last 10 years he has immersed himself in Irish Set Dance, Old Style and steps for sets. Aiden Vaughn put him on the right path, and now Maureen Culleton is his main mentor.
Jeremy first built up a set dancing group in the Erasmus School in Frankfurt and had 3 sets of active dancers. The will to dance came from the children themselves!
Jeremy currently teaches Irish Dancing at schools in Frankfurt, and has started the Kids Céilí Club at the request of his original kids group.
Jeremy's group danced for Frankfurt at the last 2 workshops, and their enthusiasm was felt by all. They were invited to dance at the Erlangen Set Dance weekend this year, and were highly praised by Pat Murphy and the Abbey Ceili Band.
This summer they were Co. Cork dancing the Skibbereen Set in Skibbereen, were guests of honour at the school where Ger Murphy of the Abbey teaches, and danced with the children of the Skibbereen Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoirí Éireann.
